Building Communities that Thrive

What does it mean to Thrive?
A Thriving Community is a community that is strong and healthy where community members can flourish.

What We Do

Promote Mental Health

We connect people to the natural environment through evidence-based mental health programs, workshops, and volunteer opportunities.

Our evidence-based programs promote greater self-acceptance, increased self-esteem, improved self-expression and management of emotions, and relief from depression, anxiety, and stress.

Green Communities

We create green spaces that are designed to promote relaxation, education, and bio-diversity.
We develop and offer a range of nature-based programs to connect people to each other and the natural world in order to thrive in their communities.

Grow Local Food Systems

We build and support urban farming sites that contribute food to those in need, while teaching the wider community about growing and harvesting food.
With access to the right resources, people can become empowered by their own abilities and gain the confidence to fulfill their potential.

"It gave me the opportunity to be closer to nature and other people, and give back to the community, especially during the pandemic. I feel proud for being part of such a wonderful initiative."

From Idea to Reality: The Evolution of Bunchberry Connections

In 2020 co-founders Adria Cehovin, MSc and Leanne Idzerda, PhD meet through a Canadian gardening e-group. They quickly realized they had many research and community development goals in common.

In 2021, as the successful first year of the Grow for Change Urban Farm in Burlington, ON was wrapping up, the two started talking about formalizing and expanding similar community programs - which launched Bunchberry Connections!

The name Bunchberry Connections was selected as Bunchberry is the national flower of Canada, and we look to expand nationally with your help.
